Why it matters#
Airport concessions in Greece tie long-term private capital and capital-expenditure commitments to regional tourism gateways. Specifically:
- Existing concessions. Growthfund's teaser says 14 regional airports have been managed by a Fraport-led consortium since 2017 under a 40-year concession, and that Athens, Heraklion and Kalamata have standalone concessions.
- Process. The 22-airport process will show how the state handles a large package of smaller, often seasonal, airports.
